“Love Songs” – May 77

Love Songs May 77

So he definitely reused this tape and recorded over the great love songs of 1977. I wonder what they were? This tape is a lot of later 70s new wave. Blondie, Roxy Music, Wall of Voodoo.

Call of the West by Wall of Voodoo
Hey by The Sensational Alex Harvey Band
Accidents Never Happen by Blondie
How Can I by Steve Hackett (featuring Richie Havens)
Unknown Instrumental (electric guitar and chanting)
Angels by Lene Lovich
The Funky Western Civilization by Tonio K.
All I Want Is Out Of Here by Daevid Allen
Virginia Plain by Roxy Music (cuts off)

And I’ll just leave this right here…

Afternoon Music – January 1978

Afternoon Music

The title suggested to me that this tape was going to be for the ladies, but no. He must have really been into Alex Harvey because there are more songs by his band on this side. Also, if any of you can help me figure out the Harold Pinter track, please, help me out. I have to break out my librarian skillz on that obscure gem. Also, did my Dad secretly live in Canterbury, UK? Because he seemed to be all up on the local scene there in the late 1970s.

Down the Road Apiece by Chuck Berry
I Hear You Knocking by Dave Edmunds
Nasty Dogs and Funky Kings by ZZ Top
River of Love by The Sensational Alex Harvey Band
How’s Your Father by Patto
Humdrum by Peter Gabriel
The Alphabet Song/Mumps by Hatfield and the North
Harold Pinter’s one act play Silence, set to music? (No fucking idea, Daddy!!!)
Radio by Steve Hillage
Unknown Instrumental (rocking guitar tho)
Unknown Instrumental (funky, Moogy)
Anthem by The Sensational Alex Harvey Band

Mysteries of the Pyramids – March 1978

Mysteries of the Pyramids

Mysteries of the Pyramids

Or did he mean to write “pryamids”? He may have meant that spelling.
Again, I’m not sure about the date on the tape. There are three different inks on the label, so he could have taped over the 1978 mix. Anxious to hear what’s on here besides Super Tramp and Alex Harvey!

Songs on this tape date from 1981, so he obviously taped over whatever he recorded in 1977. Depeche Mode*, Alex Harvey, Warren Zevon…

*It’s not Depeche Mode, but Bryan Ferry. Depeche Mode did cover this song, though!

There’s more funny and bizarre Firesign Theatre on this side, but there are also some British spoken bits that I’m not sure about yet. First appearance by Peter Gabriel. Sensational Alex Harvey Band? Daddy, you were one of a kind for sure…
